As we grow older, our body loses its ability to produce generous quantities of collagen as it used to create when we were younger. Collagen is the skin’s support, and it plays a vital role in providing firmness and elasticity. When we lose the ability to produce sufficient amounts of collagen, it leads to thinning and sagging of the skin and is evidenced by the appearance of wrinkles. This is very commonly seen on our face, neck and hands.
Introducing MaVie’s Collagen Stimulators
Sculptra and Radiesse are two common injectable collagen stimulators and are heavily utilized by our trained aesthetic providers at MaVie Med Spa. When injected beneath the skin, they work to slowly restore facial fullness that is lost from illness or age and decreases facial wrinkles and folds. The result is smooth, supple, and younger skin.
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is an FDA approved calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) cosmetic filler to naturally plump up specific areas of your face, neck and hands. This wonderful product stimulates your body’s natural collagen to reduce the appearance of fine lines and lax skin, making you look several years younger.
Radiesse is the perfect treatment for anyone who is seeing signs of aging and can be used to treat laxity in the neck, nasolabial folds, wrinkles around the mouth, fat loss in the face and can even be used in the hands.
The treatment is quick and well tolerated – about 30-45 minutes depending on the area treated. You can get back to your routine immediately after the treatment. Your medical professional will provide you with post treatment instructions during your appointment.
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an FDA-approved cosmetic collagen filler designed to enhance your facial features, add volume, and vanish the signs of aging. Made of poly-L-lactic acid, Sculptra is similar to Radiesse in its functionality. This collagen stimulator can be used in areas of the body showing signs of aging in which skin laxity, volume depletion and fine lines and wrinkles is an issue. This treatment can even be used to achieve greater contouring and definition of areas like the hip and buttocks. Both men and women can benefit from MaVie’s Sculptra treatment. It is made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which is a collagen stimulator. It’s a safe and effective treatment that works to give you a naturally younger appearance.
Is Collagen Stimulator the Best Treatment for You?
A collagen stimulator might be the best treatment option for you if you want to boost your body’s collagen production and have youthful, supple and smooth skin.
When you visit us at MaVie, our medical staff will thoroughly assess the area to be treated and determine whether or not you are a good candidate for a collagen stimulator like Sculptra or Radiesse.
It is important to understand that desired results are achieved after a series of three or more sessions and maintenance is recommended to be once a year in order to maintain best results.
First, your medical professional will predetermine the areas where you need to receive each injection, and the dose you will need. They will thoroughly clean the treatment areas then they will begin the injections. During your treatment, we ensure that your treatment at MaVie is as relaxing and comfortable as possible. While Lidocaine is utilized, we also offer cryogen air that provides a nice cooling effect, as well as Nitrous Oxide if desired. However, most tolerate the treatment without any additional comfort measures.
Recovery & Results
You might experience some temporary side effects such as itching, swelling, bruising, tenderness, and redness at the site of the injections and in the treatment area. These will resolve over the next few days.
You will notice an improvement in your skin immediately after the treatment. That is because the collagen injectable first fills in lost volume. As this volume diminishes, your body’s natural-occurring collagen will replace what was initially seen. This mechanism makes collagen stimulators a very desirable treatment as it continues to bring results well after the time of injection. It is recommended to complete a series of three treatments with maintenance once a year for optimal results.
